Marcando la distancia, Manolito y su Trabuco Contratiempo – Music

On the famous track from Manolito y su Trabuco (1998) you can also hear that contratiempo bass line, you could dance that track with the son step!

Now, it's not only about the bass line. In the music there is a notion of accent. Think rap muSIC when the sinGER put some acCENT on certain syllables.

🎧 About the song

Marcando la distancia is the title track of the album Marcando la distancia from 1998 (EGREM). A later artist profile names it as the band's favourite album.

🎺 Manolito y su Trabuco

The band was founded in 1993 by pianist Manolito Simonet, who left Maravilla de Florida with most of its musicians. It is a "super-charangón": alongside piano, bass, drums, congas and güiro there are violin, cello, flute, two trumpets and two trombones. Simonet's horn arrangements often have several contrapuntal parts, which is fairly rare in timba.
