Privacy and cookies

timba.life is a personal, non-commercial site about Cuban music and dance. We collect as little data as possible and do not sell or share anything.

Cookies

The site itself sets one cookie: a session cookie (grav-site-…). It is needed for the contact form and the members login, and expires after 30 minutes. It does not require consent. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

YouTube videos and Instagram posts

Videos and Instagram posts only load when you click them. Until then you see a preview image served by this site; nothing is sent to YouTube or Instagram. Once you click, your browser connects to YouTube (Google) or Instagram (Meta). They receive, among other things, your IP address and may set cookies; their own privacy policies apply. YouTube videos are loaded from youtube-nocookie.com, the more privacy-friendly variant.

If you ticked "always load directly" on a video or post, your browser remembers that choice (in your browser's local storage, not on our server). You can clear that choice here:

Visitor statistics and server logs

To see which pages are read, the site keeps track on its own server of which pages are visited, with your IP address, an approximate location (country/city) derived from it, and your browser type. No cookies are used for this and the data is not shared with anyone. In addition, the web server keeps a log with IP addresses for security and troubleshooting; it is deleted after about two weeks.

Contact form

When you use the contact form, we receive your name, email address and message by email and they are stored on the server. We only use them to reply to your message and delete them when they are no longer needed for that.

Fonts and images

Fonts and scripts are served by this site itself. A few images are shown directly from Wikimedia Commons; Wikimedia receives your IP address when they load.

Your rights

You can ask which data we hold about you, or have it corrected or deleted, through the contact form. If you disagree with how we handle your data, you can file a complaint with your data protection authority (in the Netherlands: Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
